TROUBLESHOOTING

TROUBLE-SHOOTING

While we love seeing our customers, we also understand that service issues are a big hassle.

These troubleshooting tips and resources for common semi-truck issues might just get you going again — without seeing our smiling faces — at least for a while.

Stop Engine Light on and truck shutting down?

9 times out of 10 it is caused by the coolant level being low. Temporary fix - top off the coolant if it is low, if it is not low, try unplugging the coolant level sensor until you make it to the nearest repair facility.

Eaton Automated transmission will not go into gear

Shut off the truck and wait 90 seconds. Key on and let it power up. This resets the system and lets it attempt a gear shift again. If this does not work, key off for 15 minutes. If this does not work, most likely the truck will need to be towed or repaired on site. Disconnecting the battery cables will not help in this situation.

Truck derating due to an SCR or DEF fault?

Keep driving to the nearest repair facility and do not stop if possible! Along with drive time, the truck will progressively derate based on vehicle stops, key offs, and filling the fuel tank. Worse-case scenario, the truck will progressively derate down to 5 mph anyway. Best-case scenario, the truck will decide it is ok and derate will go away (sometimes this is the case if a sensor is intermittently going bad or if the DEF is slightly contaminated).
